The Grifters Among Us: A Conservative Reckoning

As the November winds begin to roll in and rustle the fallen leaves, there is a chill in the air of the conservative movement—not merely the change of season but the unmistakable scent of opportunism. Currently most are reaching the bargaining stage where they’ll try to persuade a change of mind in people they’ve disagreeing with, or better acting as if Trump and the Trump movement has changed. This is to be expected as we get closer to the election and their voices get louder. Come November though there will be an eerie calm, followed by talks of a renewal that glosses over what went wrong. It’s similar to how the same people who demanded obedience during COVID lockdowns and draconian policy suddenly began acting as if we shouldn’t move on from it, let bygones be bygones. Yes, the same personalities who today demand unflinching loyalty to a single candidate will, in short order, pivot to what they do best: wringing their hands in public over the demise of conservatism while positioning themselves as the very saviors of its cause. Their cries for unity will be as hollow as the punditry they peddled during the election.
