From Croissants to Crackpots: Edmund Burke’s Take on the French Revolution
Share

Recently, I’ve seen an increase in people picking up Edmund Burke’s writings as they try to understand the philosophy of conservatism due to renewed zeal for first principles. I encourage any reading of Burke and others like Scruton, Russel Kirk and William F. Buckley to sink your teeth into. Burke is the O.G. (Original Gansta) though so it’s important to remember that writing in his time might be rough for the average reader to get into. This is why I often suggest people read Russel Kirk’s book Edmund Burke as a primer along with many other resources to include Wikipedia and AI (fact check it as well please) before they get into the writings of Burke himself which are amazing but require context to gain the full picture. With that in mind this article is more about helping people that might want to read Burke’s Reflections on the Revolution in France but might be struggling with language, or maybe for those who don’t want to read it, but just want the main ideas. For that there's Croaky.

Beginning

Edmund Burke’s "Reflections on the Revolution in France" isn’t just an old book gathering dust on my shelf; it’s a powerful piece of writing that speaks to the heart of conservative 0philosophy and offers deep insights into how society should work. Let’s dive into Burke’s thoughts, not in stuffy academic terms, but in a way that connects with everyday people just trying to understand it. Along the way, we'll see how these ideas apply to our current world and the New Federalist movement's efforts to promote Burkean conservatism.
