Arrows, Gators, and Godfathers: The Conservative Showdown on Amendment 4
Last night at the Florida GOP Victory Dinner Governor Ron DeSantis ever the master of public confrontation, recently demonstrated what conservative leadership truly looks like when he called out his fellow Republicans on their silence regarding Florida’s Amendment 4. Without naming names—because why bother with the inconvenience of pointing fingers when your message hits harder without specifics—he meticulously highlighted those who have taken both a vocal and fiscal stand against the amendment, casting a harsh light on those who have chosen to sit this one out.
For context, not that it's needed if you follow me, Amendment 4 seeks to enshrine abortion rights into Florida’s constitution, making it a pivotal point of contention for conservatives who champion the defense of life and moral order. It also presents a troublesome situation for those who support the right to abortion but don't want to see parental right's trampled on. While some have spoken out, many Republicans have opted for the comfortable seat of silence. For DeSantis, this silence is not just an oversight but a betrayal of conservative principles. As he noted, in what can only be described as a politically charged challenge to the entire GOP, silence on this matter is “untenable.” His tone? Less concerned, more like a disappointed father watching his sons flinch when it's time to take a stand. In fact not just a father, but the Godfather even. His language of saying without saying for me was like a callback to Don Corleone in the Godfather. With saying very little and without naming names he said a whole lot and made the names not mentioned very obvious.
